Choosing Whiteoaks

May your choices reflect your hopes, not your fears
Nelson Mandela

We recognise that your choice of home is a major decision, one which needs careful consideration based on your individual needs and abilities.

We aim to facilitate that choice by ensuring that our service users know precisely what services we offer.

When enquiring about accommodation and services at Whiteoaks we like to encourage you to visit our home and we provide introductory information as well as the Whiteoaks brochure, which can be sent by post, picked up at the home or seen on the Whiteoaks website: www.whiteoakscarehome.co.uk.

We encourage a prospective Service user to bring along relatives, friends and other representatives to see the home and our care facilities before making a final decision and we will provide any prospective service user with a detailed Service User Guide which is regularly reviewed and kept up to date.

We also offer a prospective service user the opportunity to come in for a complimentary meal with the other service users. Alternatively they can move in on a trial basis to ensure they know that the decision they made was the right one.

Please note that Whiteoaks Rest Home offer a range of services for the elderly including:

  • Permanent accommodation
  • Respite or temporary accommodation
  • Day care service

For more information please contact the office or e-mail: whiteoakscare@aol.com.

Meeting Your Needs

The most basic of all human needs is the need to understand and be understood. The best way to understand people is to listen to them
Ralph Nicols.

Before we can safely welcome you home, in line with CQC regulations, we must undertake a pre-admission assessment. This ensures that we can provide the best possible care for all of our service users and that we are as happy as you that this is the right home for your needs.

The assessment will cover a range of health and social needs including but not limited to:

  • Personal care needs
  • Medical history
  • Mobility
  • Communication
  • Social interests and hobbies
  • Religious and cultural needs

This will be the information that we need to set out your plan of care and determine, if accepted, how best we can meet your needs.

If we feel that the home is not suitable for you we will try to give advice on how to look for help elsewhere.

If an emergency admission has to be made we will inform the new Service user within 48 hours about key aspects and routines of the home and carry out the full assessment process within 5 days.

Following your needs assessment, and depending on vacancies, a decision to offer a place is made within 5 days. If there are no current vacancies it is possible for an applicant to be placed on a waiting list.

Moving Into Whiteoaks

So I close my eyes to old ends and open my heart to new beginnings
Nick Frederickson

When moving into Whiteoaks, new Service users automatically have a one month “trial period” built into their contracts during which both they and the home can ensure that this is the right home for them.

It is during this period that their care needs and preferences are once again assessed and discussed with both the Service user and their next of kin(s) and/or representative(s) until it develops into their agreed Care Plan.

A Service user’s Care Plan is an integral and important part of their stay here at Whiteoaks . After moving in we will put your Plan of care together and review it monthly.

Another important aspect of adjusting your life to our home is in the care you receive from outside agencies. We will ensure that full communication is maintained at all times with the General practitioner of your choice from one of three local health centres (all of whom we have excellent rapport with) and can aid you with making appointments, prescriptions and repeat prescriptions.

We also work with other agencies such as the local District Nurses, CPN’s, Occupational therapists, physiotherapists, opticians and other health and remedial agencies, who all visit the home, to ensure that you have all the tools you need to remain healthy in mind and body.

Whiteoaks Rest Home ask that you provide your own toiletries such as bubble bath, soap and toothpaste etc. we also politely ask for all items of clothing to be clearly named and checked regularly to ensure that all of your belongings are kept safe as, if they are unnamed or unclear we can hold no responsibility for any lost items. However we do also offer a clothes labelling service, if you are unable to do this yourself
