Meals

Good Food is a celebration of life
Sophia Loren

Whiteoaks prides itself on recognising that meal times are not only part of daily life and health, but that they should be enjoyed on a social level. With our elegant dining room, with views to the gardens, that all of our Service users make full use of, we feel that meal times should be pleasant, unhurried and peaceful occasions for everyone, hence the reason for our protected mealtimes policy.

Our menu consists of a different meal every day. With an extensive breakfast menu of porridge, cereals, toasts and fruit. Breakfast is always served with tea, coffee and/or fruit juice.

Our lunch and tea menu is always varied and seasonal with a variety of choices (a hot, vegetarian and salad option) both meals are served with a dessert.

Lunch is the main meal of the day and is usually 3 courses (including a soup starter). There are always at least 2 options to choose from plus a cold salad option.

The teatime meal is a lighter 2 courses and also offers 2 hot menu choices or a sandwich option.

Social Activities

Entertainment provides relief, Art provokes engagement
David Foster Wallace

All of the staff at Whiteoaks aim to give the service users the best possible quality of life. As such we value all of our service user’s social lives, activities and hobbies as an important aspect of their care and strive to find something that they can enjoy doing whatever their capabilities.

We like to ensure that we have at least one group activity daily which usually takes place between 3.00pm – 4.00pm. Our activities include things such as chair aerobics, arts and crafts, skittles, sing-a-longs and making cakes and we are always open to suggestions if anyone would like to do something new or different.

As well as group activities we like to encourage our service users to pursue any personal hobbies they have such as sewing, knitting and/or reading (we have a number of books in the home including a number of large print books and a visiting mobile library).

We also have two communal televisions and 7 telephone points (which our service users are welcome to use) and if they choose, are able to have a television, telephone or radio in their room (at their own expense). Magazine and newspapers are delivered daily and can be arranged at the service user’s request.

We like to think that our home is truly a home and as such we like any excuse to celebrate and have a number of events throughout the year such as an Easter raffle, a summer B.B.Q and a Halloween party as well as a number of things leading up to Christmas (for which we always create a special Christmas events calendar with full details).

Our service users are free to come and go as they please however we do ask you to note that Whiteoaks cannot be held responsible for any incident or accident which occurs outside of our premises.
